John Lewis' Christmas Ad 2014

Many people have that unique catalyst that triggers the "Ahhh...now it feels like Christmas" feeling. For some, it's the return of the Starbucks red cup or the historic Coca Cola Christmas truck. 

For me, it is the release of the annual John Lewis Christmas ad that marks the beginning of the festive season. The retailer is fast becoming one of those elite brands that are iconic for signalling the start of Christmas.


This year John Lewis seemed to have moved on from bears to the lovesick Monty the Penguin. And while this ad does not quite hit the same mark of last years Bear and the Hare, it is still a beautiful and heart warming Christmas ad that taps into the core values of Christmas without being too cliche.


The cinematic production and Tom Odell's version of John Lennon's Real Love make the overall effect absolutely haunting.
